A 45-year-old man whose breathalyzer readings were more than twice the legal limit was sentenced recently to eight days in jail.
Shane Louis McKenna appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to failing the breathalyzer.
The court heard that on Sept. 14 the RCMP responded to a call about a possible impaired driver.
McKenna, who is from P.E.I. and has been living in Alberta for the last 10 years, provided breathalyzer readings more than twice the legal limit.
Defence lawyer Yolande Murphy told the court McKenna has taken steps to deal with his addiction and has been sober since his arrest.
Along with the jail time, McKenna must also pay a $1,300 fine and $390 victim surcharge.
He is banned from driving for one year.
