SUMMERVILLE, P.E.I. — RCMP officers were able to track down a driver who passed a stopped school bus Thursday, thanks to information received from deputy sheriffs travelling to court.
The two sheriffs from Kings/Queens County Sheriff Services were on their way to provincial court in Georgetown through Summerville at 8:20 a.m. when they witnessed a woman driving a silver SUV pass a bus with its red lights flashing while children were boarding on Route 3.
The deputy sheriffs contacted the Kings District RCMP and provided the license plate number and a description of the vehicle.
An officer from Queens District RCMP was able to locate this vehicle as it was travelling towards Charlottetown.
The driver was issued a ticket for passing a school bus, which carries a fine of $1,000 and 12 demerit points.
The RCMP is reminding drivers that a good deal of outreach has been done by all police agencies and the provincial government regarding the rules around school bus safety and the threat children are put under when drivers make bad choices.
