A 10-year-old boy from Ontario was injured by falling rocks last weekend on a beach in P.E.I.
Kensington Fire Chief Rodney Hickey says firefighters and paramedics both arrived at Thunder Cove Beach in Darnley at about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, responding to a call of a boy in distress.
Hickey says the boy was lying on the beach at the base of a cliff, his legs covered in rocks, his parents at his side.
He says the boy was conscious and appeared calm but was in some pain.
Paramedics stabilized the boy, put him on a backboard and carried him up a cliff.
The boy is in stable condition at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, according to a hospital spokesman. It is believed he was airlifted to Halifax after first being taken to the Prince County Hospital in Summerside.
Hickey says the call was unsettling for a couple of responding fire fighters who have children about the same age as the boy.
Thunder Cove Beach, located just outside Kensington, is known for its sandstone cliffs and dramatic sand formations shaped by wind and waves.
Visitors to the beach are cautioned to be careful climbing the cliffs because the sandstone is fragile rock.
