Not guilty pleas from man accused of ramming vehicles into Summerside Chevy dealership

SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - A Summerside man accused of ramming two vehicles through and starting a fire in a Summerside business has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

William Eric Rogers, 19, was in court Tuesday morning. He has been held in custody since his arrest on Nov. 10.

The Crown indicated that there will be a “considerable” amount of witnesses in this case. They also said at least six weeks was needed to prepare and three days would be needed for the proceedings.

The trial was set for March 4, 5 and 6. Rogers was remanded to a health care facility in the meantime.

Rogers is facing seven criminal charges in total, some in relation to the destruction at Summerside’s Township Chevrolet on Nov. 10, 2018, and others in relation to an incident on Nov. 9. The charges include assault, forcible confinement, uttering death threats, motor vehicle theft, breaking and entering, arson – disregard for human life, and arson – and damage to property.

Regarding the damage to Township, someone drove a car through one of the dealership’s bay doors, set a pile of tires on fire inside, then got in truck that was in the workshop drove it around inside and then rammed it through another door.

Police arrived at the business quickly and Rogers was arrested at the scene.
