A Charlottetown man recently avoided jail time after stealing chocolate bars and lottery tickets from a convenience store.
James Robert MacKay, 53, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to one count of theft and was given a suspended sentence.
Crown attorney Jeff MacDonald told the court that on Nov. 24 and 25 MacKay went to Downtown Convenience where he stole lottery tickets and chocolate bars.
The total value of the stolen items was $136 and MacDonald said the thefts were caught on video.
Before hearing his sentence, MacKay apologized to the court.
With the suspended sentence, MacKay will be on probation for nine months and must pay $136 in restitution.
