CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. man who fraudulently cashed cheques made out to himself was recently given a suspended sentence and ordered to pay back $1,500.
Adam Nicholas Willoughby, 31, appeared before Chief Judge Jeff Lantz in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to one count of fraud.
Crown attorney Jeff MacDonald told the court that between Sept. 2 and Oct. 1, Willoughby was living in the same building as the victim.
MacDonald said cheques were taken from the victim and three were made out to Willoughby who cashed them without permission.
The total value of the cheques was $1,500.
With the suspended sentence, Willoughby will be on probation for 18 months and he must write an apology letter to the victim.
Willoughby must also pay $1,500 in restitution to TD Bank.
