A Charlottetown man who went behind the front desk to try to take a key while he was causing a disturbance at a hotel was recently given a suspended sentence on several charges.
Denver Adam Roberts, 27, appeared before Judge Jeff Lantz in provincial court in Charlottetown where he was sentenced on several charges, including causing a disturbance and resisting arrest.
Crown attorney Emily Campbell told the court that on Jan. 20, Roberts went to a hotel in Charlottetown where he started throwing things around and yelling.
Roberts went behind the front desk and tried to get a room key, Campbell said.
The court heard an employee told him they were going to call the police and Roberts tried to grab the phone before leaving and running across the street.
Campbell said Roberts then got into an altercation with someone at a residence near the hotel and had a brief struggle with the police when they arrived.
Defence lawyer Alex Dalton told the court Roberts had underlying substance abuse issues and he apologized for his actions.
With the suspended sentence, Roberts will be on probation for 18 months and must perform 50 hours of community service or pay $10 per hour not completed with the money going to a food bank.
