CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - A new Gilbert Blythe will be taking the stage during this year’s production of Anne of Green Gables: The Musical.
The Confederation Centre of the Arts announced today that J.J. Gerber will be taking over the role of during the 2018 Charlottetown Festival.
Gerber said he grew up enjoying the story with his sister and Blythe was always his favourite character.
“When I heard that I would be getting a chance to play Gilbert I called her and we both couldn’t believe it,” he said.

This will be the Brampton, Ont. native’s first year in the festival.
Gerber said the Anne of Green Gables story is about growing up in a land full of promise, possibility and hope, and accepting those in need even if it isn’t a popular idea.
“To think that I get to be a part of The Charlottetown Festival is truly a dream come true,” he said.
This year’s Adam Brazier-directed production will also feature a new revolving stage.
“The new stage will not only add a beautiful Island texture to our production, but it will allow for better fluidity in our storytelling,” Brazier said.
Anne of Green Gables: The Musical starts it 54th season on June 18.
