Thousands of Islanders were expected to attend levees across P.E.I. Wednesday, upholding a tradition that dates back literally hundreds of years.

In Prince Edward Island levees are hosted by virtually all levels of government, as well as by military personnel, service clubs and organizations, fraternal organizations, the church, academic bodies and a variety of other groups.

Levees traditionally begin mid-morning and continue into late afternoon. Some stretch into the early evening.
