The P.E.I. Council of People with Disabilities has announced a new, multi-year project funded by the disability component of the Government of Canada’s social development partnership program.
The project goal is to update the council’s accessibility awareness training module, and
further increase awareness of accessibility practices in communities, businesses and
organizations across the Island.
Marcia Carroll, executive director, said the new module will focus on how people are all unique and have many facets to their identities.
“We need people to understand that Islanders living disabilities are as complex and diverse as all citizens.”
The project aims to increase understanding about how multiple identity categories may converge to further marginalize people with disabilities.
