After allegations that only Liberals were getting extra paving in their districts, Transportation Minister Paula Biggar says that’s not the case.

Responding to questions from independent MLA Bush Dumville last week, Biggar told the media on Wednesday that 18 districts across the province got part of an extra $2 million in recap paving in 2017.

The rest of the districts didn’t qualify because they are in municipalities that do their own paving, Biggar said.

“It’s very unfortunate that Mr. Dumville has parted ways with our party and has chosen perhaps to use some language that is not accurate.”

That language was a bit softer than what Biggar said about Dumville on the floor of the legislature.

“So Mr. Speaker I think it’s very unfortunate that some of the accusations coming from the member from West Royalty seem to be a case of sour grapes,” she said.

Biggar said this year the province plans to spend $8 million on recap paving, which will cover about 100 kilometres of roads.
