MORELL – A couple of years after cutting its hours down to two days a week, the Morell Scotiabank branch is now set to close.
A sign went up at the branch recently informing clients of the decision to shut down.
Daniela Da Silva, manager of Scotiabank’s Canadian banking communications, told The Guardian that affected customers’ accounts will be automatically transferred to the Sherwood branch on July 18, 2019.
“After careful consideration of our operations in this community, we made the difficult decision to not continue to operate the Morell branch,” Da Silva said in an email to The Guardian.
Da Silva said the needs of many customers are changing, with many clients now choosing online and digital forms of banking.
In June 2017, it was announced the branch would see hours of operation soon reduced to two days a week due to changing customer use.
Da Silva said a review prior to making the decision to close included a full area market analysis that looked at a number of factors, including proximity to other Scotiabank branches and customer traffic.
“Like any business, we regularly review our branch network, the number of customers that we serve in the market area, and the way that those customers are doing their banking.”
