SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — SUMMERSIDE - A Miscouche man is facing several charges after a suspected impaired driving incident that occurred early Saturday morning.
At approximately 12:15 a.m., the Summerside Police Services received a call from staff members at a Water Street bar reporting a customer had been asked to leave the establishment for being intoxicated. It was also reported the man got into his vehicle and drove away, striking a parked vehicle in the process.
Within a few minutes, police located the suspect’s vehicle in a Water Street parking lot.
Police spoke with the driver, a 39-year-old man, who showed signs of impairment. When police attempted to arrest him, he drove away, over a curb and median area, then fled on Water Street.
While searching for man, police located a damaged fire hydrant in the Court Street area and then found the vehicle a short distance away, abandoned, in a Notre Dame Street parking lot. The vehicle is believed to have hit the fire hydrant.
The driver was not located again until approximately 9 p.m., Saturday evening when he was arrested by police.
He has been released from custody and will appear in court at a later date to answer to impaired driving-related charges along with flight from police and two counts of failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
