MARS will be landing on P.E.I. soon — but fear not.

This is a friendly and educational visit from the Marine Animal Response Society, or MARS for short, as part of a community tour.

The tour engages local community members in the need for marine animal conservation and explains how residents can help respond to marine animal incidents in the Maritimes as volunteers with MARS.

MARS founder Tonya Wimmer will present the tour in Alberton at the Cultural and Heritage Centre on Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. and the following day in Charlottetown at the Craft Beer Corner, also at 7 p.m.

“Volunteers are the key to the success of this organization, and with their help, MARS is able to assist live animals in trouble and gather valuable information from dead animals which contributes to the conservation of these incredible marine species,’’ said the organization in a news release.

The event is free and open to the public.

The community tour is supported by the P.E.I. Wildlife Conservation Fund, Lush Charity Pot, and the Canadian Wildlife Federation.

The Marine Animal Response Society is a charitable organization dedicated to marine animal (whales, dolphins, porpoises, and seals) conservation in the Maritimes through response, research and education.
