A P.E.I. man who had a pellet gun during a standoff with the RCMP in Souris pleaded guilty Tuesday to six charges related to several incidents.

Donovan Scott MacCaull, 25, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown by video from jail where he has been in custody since his May 8 arrest.

MacCaull pleaded guilty to possessing a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace, uttering a threat, damaging property, theft and two counts of breaching his probation.

It was MacCaull’s second court appearance since his arrest, and he was unrepresented as he told the court he wanted to plead guilty to all charges.

With the guilty pleas, the Crown stayed two other charges MacCaull was facing.

On May 8, the RCMP issued an alert asking Souris residents to stay indoors because of an incident involving a potentially armed man they said had barricaded himself inside a building.

The weapon turned out to be a pellet gun, and no one was injured during the incident.

During his previous court appearance, MacCaull tried to enter guilty pleas, but after he said he was “pill sick” from coming off drugs, Orr wouldn’t accept his pleas.

When Orr asked him how he was on Tuesday, MacCaull said he was “feeling 110 per cent.”

After entering the pleas, MacCaull said he wanted to be sentenced that day, but Orr had to adjourn the matter to a later date because of a potential issue with the video conference system.

The P.E.I. Court of Appeal also had a matter that required the use of video conference that afternoon.

MacCaull will be back in court May 27 for sentencing.
