A new opinion poll released today by MQO Research continues to show the three mainline parties in a virtual deadlock, with support for the governing Liberals continuing to decline.
The poll, conducted by telephone between Oct. 22 and Nov. 4 with 400 P.E.I. voters, saw current Liberal support down three percentage points from July to 31 per cent. Support for the PC party was up one percentage point to 30 per cent while the Green Party continued its trend of polling slightly ahead of the pack at 32 per cent. The NDP saw the biggest increase in support since July, growing from four per cent to seven per cent.
The voters who were undecided or did not intend to vote remained steady at 35 per cent. The margin of error for the poll was 4.9 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
The continuing decline in support for the Liberals and the upswing in support for the Green Party has echoed results from opinion polls from Corporate Research Associates. The most recent CRA poll saw Liberal support at 35 per cent, PC support at 20 per cent and Green Party support at 38 per cent.
MQO polls have tracked a 12 percentage point drop in Liberal support and a 19 percentage point increase in Green support between October 2017 and October 2018.
The MQO opinion poll also found that 52 per cent of Islanders said their general outlook of P.E.I. had remained the same, while 19 per cent said it had become worse. Twenty-five per cent said it had become better.
