Kings Playhouse lineup has something for everyone

Kings Playhouse has more events and programming this season than ever before.

The summer season kicks off early with a special dance-a-thon event, called “We Like to Move It Move It”.

In partnership with Participaction and Go! East P.E.I., the Georgetown venue is hosting a dance and activity event for all ages and abilities today, with food, music and prizes.

“A Closing Fit for Kings”, the finale of the P.E.I. Mutual Festival of Small Halls on June 23, features the Ennis Sisters and Rura from the U.K. and is hosted by Patrick Ledwell.

Monday evenings, beginning June 24, Gary Evans of the Four Tellers and award-winning singer/songwriter Rachel Beck will team up for “Tellers and Tunes”. Each week they will invite special storytellers and musical guests to join them.

Tuesday nights are Hootenanny nights beginning June 25 at 8 p.m. This is a night of music and dancing in the ceilidh tradition.

Wednesdays will feature the murder-mystery comedy “Murder Inn” by Jonah Anderson, beginning on July 10.

The Haunted Georgetown walks will continue on Thursdays, starting at 9:15 p.m., with a ghostly tour through historic Georgetown. The first walk is July 11.

A special dinner and theatre, “Down with Demon Rum”, takes place Friday nights, starting July 12, and will feature songs and stories of the old rum-running days on the Island. The meal consists of fish cakes, baked beans, homemade biscuits and a special “demon rum” cake for dessert.

Two events kick off on July 21.

A new youth theatre company called United Unicorns, is made up of youth aged nine to 17 who will present the musical “The Winkle Pickers” by Hank Stinson each Sunday at 3 p.m. in the memorial gardens. Company members will also participate in workshops lead by professional actors, directors, musicians, designers and more.

High Tea on the deck of the Playhouse will take place Sundays, 1-2:30 p.m.

Camps for children aged six to 13 to learn performance and creative skills will run July 15-19 and Aug. 5-9. A special public presentation takes place at the end of each week.

There will also be a series of concerts throughout the summer and fall, including Leisa Way’s Opry Gold on Aug. 28.
