Keith Boswell has been appointed a judge of the federal court, Attorney General Peter MacKay has announced.
Boswell, a lawyer with Stewart McKelvey in Charlottetown, will replace Justice J.A. O’Keefe, who elected to become a supernumerary judge.
Boswell’s appointment is effective June 30.
Boswell, who lives in Victoria, received a Bachelor of Laws from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1983. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1985 and to the Bar of Prince Edward Island in 1987. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2005.
Boswell has practised with Stewart McKelvey in Charlottetown since 1988.
Prior to that, he was an associate with Dean Shaw Law Office and McMillan Binch (now McMillan LLP) in Toronto. His main areas of practice were business law, corporate law and commercial law.
Boswell has served as an executive and committee member of the Law Society of Prince Edward Island, the Federation of Law Societies of Canada, the Canadian Lawyers Insurance Association Advisory Board, and the Prince Edward Island Branch of the Canadian Bar Association.
Boswell has been a card-carrying Conservative for nearly three decades and past president of the Progressive Conservative Association of P.E.I.
