GEORGETOWN, P.E.I. - A man will spend 15 days in jail after doing his best to prevent police from getting a breath sample.

Scott Allen Guignard pleaded guilty Dec. 13 in provincial court in Georgetown to failing to provide suitable samples of breath for analysis.

Guignard was stopped by police on Oct. 30 in Montague after he was reported to be driving erratically.

He told police he had not been drinking and was, in fact, a designated driver.

However, Guignard showed several signs of intoxication, including slurred speech and fumbling with documents.

Court heart Guignard was given numerous opportunities to give breath samples but was not co-operative.

He was fined $1,000, ordered to pay $300 in a victims of crime surcharge, and is prohibited from driving for one year.

“I am taking full responsibility and taking necessary steps to change my life,’’ Guignard told the court, noting he is working part-time as a flagger and plans to start attending college in January.
