Julius Patkai has announced his intention to seek the Conservative party nomination in Cardigan for the next federal election.
The father of three said after listening to Islanders across P.E.I., one thing he kept hearing was that hardworking Island families are struggling to meet the basic necessities of life.
“My starting point is to be your voice and representative to do the right thing, by putting your needs first,” he said.
During the past 35 years, Patkai has been involved with his community in many different capacities, including past-president of the P.E.I. Soil and Crop Improvement Association, member of the Eastern Chamber of Commerce board, past finance chairman of the Eastern School Board, past Montague Rotarian and past member of the Eastern Eagles Soccer Association.
He currently serves as president of the P.E.I. Newcomers Association to Canada and is an active member of both the Eastern P.E.I. and the Greater Charlottetown chambers of commerce.
Patkai’s background is in international trade and business management. He has a master’s of business administration from UPEI and is a certified management consultant and a certified international trade professional with more than 35 years of experience in international trade and export, agriculture, processing, food safety program development and management.
“I see tremendous opportunities for Cardigan. I feel that with the right approach and corrections from previous trade agreements, we can put the interest of Islanders and Canadians first on the world stage.”
Patkai said there are opportunities in Cardigan in many sectors, including fisheries, processing, agriculture, tourism and business and said many people can benefit from globalization.
“If given the opportunity, I am determined to do all I can to build a better future, both for my community and for my country."
Lawrence MacAulay has been the Liberal MP for Cardigan since 1988.
