CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The current leader of the Island New Democrats announced he is seeking the federal nomination for Charlottetown in the upcoming federal election.

Joe Byrne announced Sept. 9 that he wants to represent the federal New Democratic Party in the riding Charlottetown.

Byrne was the NDP candidate in the 2011 and 2015 federal elections. He was the provincial candidate for Charlottetown Victoria Park in the 2019 provincial election.

The Charlottetown NDP nomination meeting is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Murphy Community Centre, 200 Richmond St. in Charlottetown beginning at 7 p.m.

For more information contact Byrne at 902-367-8228.

"People across the riding have shared their struggles with me over a long time. I hear their stories and am convinced that the New Democrats have the right ideas to respond to these challenges. Our society needs policies to address homelessness and housing, pharmacare, fair wages, and good health care,” said Byrne.

"Climate change is the most pressing challenge facing our time. While facing this issue, we cannot ask people to choose between living with uncertainty and insecurity in their lives, so we can save the planet. That is not a reasonable approach and it will not work. Canadians need a new deal that addresses all of these challenges from a party and a leader that are ready."
