CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - It’s tally time for Decision ’18 after thousands of Islanders went to the polls Monday in municipal councils and mayoral races across the province.

Polls closed at 7 p.m. and many are watching the results live on television at the Charlottetown Fire Department’s Firefighter’s Club.

Viewing party organizer Jesse Hitchcock, co-founder of the Young Voters of P.E.I., said she’s ready for a good turnout.

“It’s safe to say I’m comfortable with 70 or more,” Hitchcock said.

But regardless of numbers, for Hitchcock and her organization it’s about bridging that gap between younger voters and politicians.

“We want to put politicians into the space young people occupy instead of putting young people into the spaces politicians occupy,” she said. “Everyone gets excited to watch the results. They’re all excited municipal, provincial, federal, whatever the level of government, (to be engaged) to keep the fire stoked.”

The Guardian’s Decision ‘18 Election Night Live! began broadcasting on Eastlink Community TV at 7 p.m.
