STRATFORD, P.E.I. — Water and sewer rates are rising for residents of Stratford.

The new rates were announced during the approval of the town's 2020-21 utility budget, which was presented via a livestream council meeting on March 30. The budget is allocating $8,068,100 for town utilities, over half of which is thanks to external funding.

Later this year, Stratford's waste water delivery system to the Charlottetown Pollution Control Plant will be completed. While the impact this may have on taxpayers is unknown, the rate increases are, in part, to ensure operating costs are covered.

For single-family dwellings, water rates will increase from $75.30 to $82.05 per quarter. Sewer rates will increase from $121 to $122.86.

The consumption charge for metered water will increase from $0.89 to $0.97 per cubic meter. Metered sewer will increase from $1.43 to $1.45.
