This summer’s extreme humidity has pushed back the opening of new facilities at the Dartmouth Sportsplex to next year.

The renovated sports facility, originally set to open this fall, will open at the end of January with recreational programming to start in February.

Most of the work will be finished by the end of December, according to a news release from Halifax Regional Municipality.

Workers delayed the installation of hardwood floors in the gymnasium, studios and courts to prevent potential warping from the heat. The double gymnasium is in its final stages of construction now as the floor is being put in.

The new Dartmouth Sportsplex will have a double gym, pool with a waterslide fitness centre and other new additions.

The $28-million project is still on budget.

The delay with not affect the arena that opened last month.
