O’LEARY, P.E.I. - The only Prince Edward Island New Democrat ever elected to the provincial legislature says he wants to represent the people of District 25 again.

Dr. Herb Dickieson took the party’s District 25, O’Leary-Inverness, nomination by acclamation Wednesday night.

The retired family physician says he's encouraged the party already has 100 members signed up in the district, more than it had when he was elected to the legislature in 1996.

Attracting more doctors and nurses to the region so residents can feel their health care needs are being met, creating more employment opportunities for area residents and improving conditions for the district’s indigenous population are some of the objectives Dickieson says he will be working towards.
