CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A group of residents and business people opposing the potential for more asphalt plants on Sherwood Road in Charlottetown have taken another step in their fight.

Jamie Brown, who owns Brown’s Volkswagen on Sherwood Road, said the group officially filed appeal papers on Tuesday with the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission (IRAC).

They’re opposing city council’s recent decision to pass an amendment to the zoning and development bylaw permitting asphalt, aggregate and concrete plants in the M2 zone.

There are two M2 zones in the city, at the West Royalty Industrial Park and on Sherwood Road.

The group is doing more than just appealing to IRAC.

Brown said they will also file papers on Wednesday with the City of Charlottetown formally asking council to reconsider its decision.

And, the group will host a public meeting on the issue on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the West Royalty Community Centre.
