SUMMERSIDE - The current councillor for Ward 5: Hillcrest – Platte River has announced his desire to sit at council for another four years.

Greg Campbell said he was heartened by the number of residents who have recently asked that he put his name forward for another term.

A resident of the ward, Campbell was first elected in 2014. He currently chairs the electrical utility committee, which oversees the city’s largest department and has yet to miss a council meeting during his term.

As the chairman of the Electric Utility he has supported the installation of a solar farm at Credit Union Place, developing plans to increase generation capacity for the utility and expanded the Heat for Less program.

Campbell says his priorities include safety and efficiency of traffic flow in his ward.

He says he also want to continuing work toward making the city more senior friendly.

“As an active senior myself, I know that Summerside is a great place to live, but I think we can do better by making it even more accessible and meaningful for seniors in this community.”

The challenge of developing non-tradition energy resources is also critical, he said.

“We are in a better position than most cities our size due to wind power generation and the new solar farm at the Credit Union Place. Technology advances every day, so we need to keep up with it and take advantage of our wind and solar resources in the future.”
