CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Motorists are reminded to use extra caution when travelling in Charlottetown on Friday, Aug. 16 before, during and after the Gold Cup Parade.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and conclude around noontime.
The 2019 Gold Cup Parade theme is “Vive l’Acadie” to celebrate the 2019 World Acadian Congress (CMA 2019) that is being hosted in the region from Aug. 10-24.
North River Road, between Seaview Boulevard and McGill Avenue, will be closed to all traffic from 7 a.m. until the completion of the parade.
Only registered parade entries will be permitted onto North River Road at Belvedere Avenue.
The following roads will be closed in advance of the parade, as early as 9 a.m. until the conclusion of the parade:
- North River Road from McGill Avenue to Brighton Road;
- Brighton Road from North River Road to Great George Street;
- Great George Street from Euston Street to Grafton Street;
- Grafton Street from Great George Street to Queen Street;
- Queen Street from Grafton Street to Water Street;
- Water Street from Queen Street to Weymouth Street.
Parking will be prohibited along the entire parade route from 2 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16 until the conclusion of the parade.
Vehicles parked in the no parking zones will be towed at the owner’s expense, without notice.
Water Street will be blocked to traffic coming from the Hillsborough Bridge and Riverside Drive beginning around 10:30 a.m.
Anyone needing to get to the medical clinic at the Friendly Pharmacy is advised to take Grafton Street and turn down Weymouth Street. There will be a traffic warden at the bottom of Weymouth Street to allow patients through.
Residents, businesses and visitors are reminded that accessing or leaving certain areas of the city by vehicle will be limited or inaccessible on the west and south side of the parade route.
Parking on the north or east side out of the parade route is recommended if you need to leave the city during the road closures and parade time.
For everyone’s safety, pedestrians are reminded to stay off the roadways during the parade teardown.
