The Commission scolaire de langue française (CSLF) has launched its annual recruitment campaign for teachers.
Nathalie Malo, manager of human resources for CSLF, and student services coordinator Lisa Marmen have visited with UPEI and Université de Moncton students during the past month.
They will also visit Université du Québec à Rimouski students later this month.
The CSLF participates in career fairs to promote its schools and the province of P.E.I., to inform potential teachers of jobs and to prepare them for job interviews. The CSLF also uses its social media to advertise job postings, as well as national and Québec websites dedicated to teachers and French-language education.
Malo recognizes that recruiting French-speaking students in education is an increasingly-difficult challenge. There is a growing dearth of French-language teachers throughout Canada, whether in French-language or immersion schools which provide potential teachers more options.
In addition, many school boards offer a signing bonus, something the CSLF cannot do. Also, most of the graduates prefer to teach in their home province, which amplifies the CSLF’s challenge. However, UPEI’s education program has significantly increased the pool for the CSLF.
