SUMMERSIDE - A family of three has been displaced by a fire that destroyed their house last night several kilometres southeast of Tignish near the western tip of Prince Edward Island.
Disaster volunteers with the Canadian Red Cross Saturday assisted the couple and their three-year-old son with emergency purchases of clothing, food and other basics, plus a comfort toy for the toddler. They're staying with relatives for now while awaiting an assessment by insurers after the long weekend.
The family wasn't home at the time, so there were no injuries from the fire, reported shortly after 6 p.m. Friday at 215 Dune Road.
