CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Several programs for P.E.I. seniors received funding from the federal government this month. 

In all, eight programs in the Malpeque riding benefitted from funds through the 2019-20 New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP). 

  • Albany Community Centre received $22,433 for renovations to the building.
  • South Shore Community Organization got $20,881 to purchase exercise equipment and encourage active living. 
  • Kensington Area Seniors Surfers Club received $2,419 to support the increased social participation and inclusion of seniors in community-related activities.
  • Miltonvale Park Community now has $5,250 to offer mentorship programs to youth in skills related to farming, baking and other activities. 
  • Afton Community Centre received $15,744 to support the organization in providing activities that are designed to engage seniors in physical exercise. 
  • Milton Community Hall will benefit from $6,500 to provide classes in gardening and music to local seniors. 
  • Crapaud Community Curling Club will receive $23,602 for needed repairs to the facility. 
  • Stella Maris Roman Catholic Parish will receive $16,417 to install an accessibility chair lift.

Funds from the NHSP enable seniors to access a variety of new activities as well as maintain their active engagement in ongoing community events such as suppers, card parties and trivia nights.
