INVERNESS, P.E.I. – A motor vehicle collision along Highway 2 in Inverness this morning has claimed the life of a 53-year-old woman from East Bideford.
Corporal Mike Lutley with East Prince RCMP said a westbound vehicle left Highway 2 on a curve, then impacted with a ditch and a utility pole.
The collision was reported at 6:20 a.m. and Prince District RCMP and Island EMS responded.
“A 53-year-old female from East Bideford was transported to hospital, and she succumbed to her injuries shortly thereafter,” Corp. Lutley reported.
The victim was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
A traffic reconstructionist was still on scene early Wednesday afternoon.
Lutley said the cause of the collision hasn’t been determined.
“We’re still investigating we’re still looking at identifying witnesses,” he said.
It’s the second fatal collision on P.E.I. roads in as many days.
Earlier this morning, the RCMP said a 71-year-old Kings County man died as a result of a single-vehicle crash near East Point on Tuesday afternoon.
