CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. man who needed staples to treat a cut on his forehead after headbutting part of a police vehicle was recently fined $2,000 for drunk driving.
Matthew Paul Pound, 24, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown where he entered a guilty plea.
Crown attorney Lisa Goulden told the court the police arrested Pound after a report from the public about a possible impaired driver.
Pound provided breathalyzer samples that were around three times the legal limit.
Goulden said that while the police were arresting Pound he started to resist and cut his forehead from headbutting the divider known as the “silent patrolman” inside their vehicle.
Pound went to hospital for treatment where he got two staples to seal the cut, Goulden said.
Before hearing his sentence, Pound addressed the court and said he apologized for making a fool of himself.
Along with the fine, Pound will be on probation for one year with conditions that include undergoing any counselling or treatment as directed.
Pound is banned from driving for one year.
