CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - A 38-year-old man who hit a wall of the Confederation Centre of the Arts with his Cadillac while he was driving drunk was sentenced Thursday to one day in jail.

Andrew Peter Gallant, who is from P.E.I. but lives in Ontario, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to failing the breathalyzer.

The court heard that on Aug. 4 at around 4 a.m. Gallant was driving his Cadillac when it hit a wall of the Confederation Centre three times.

Gallant provided breathalyzer samples that were around twice the legal limit.

Before hearing his sentence, Gallant said he made a terrible and dangerous mistake.

“I wish I could take it back,” he said.

Gallant also said he was glad he didn’t cause any real harm.

Along with the jail time, Douglas fined Gallant $1,000 and ordered him to pay a $300 victim surcharge.

Gallant is banned from driving for one year.
