CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Father Austin Bradley, the longest serving priest in the Diocese of Charlottetown, is being remembered for his remarkable memory and his active participation in ecumenical activities over the years. He died March 2 at age 88.

A native of Kelly’s Cross, he graduated from St. Dunstan’s University in 1951 and a year later began theological studies at Holy Heart Seminary in Halifax.

Ordained to the priesthood at St. Dunstan’s Basilica by Bishop MacEachern in 1956, Bradley served as an assistant priest at Seven Mile Bay, Summerside, Holy Redeemer and Basilica parishes. After being pastor at Tignish and Indian River he was for a number of years chaplain at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and at the Precious Blood Monastery in Charlottetown. Along the way he had a sabbatical year of studies in Ottawa.

Bradley’s funeral was held March 8 at St. Dunstan’s Basilica. He was one of 18 priests from Kelly’s Cross Parish and the interment of his remains will take place there in the spring.
