CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — City council recently voted unanimously to spend $29,403 on a new 72-inch commercial grade front mount lawn mower.
The successful submission came from Green Diamond Equipment Ltd.
Public works and parks and recreation originally hadn’t planned on spending more than $25,000 and went out and sought three quotes since it was a time-sensitive matter.
Two bids came in, from Green Diamond Equipment Ltd., and from Vessey’s Equipment Ltd. in the amount of $34,672.
Frank Quinn, manager of parks and recreation, said if the city went to a publicly advertised tender, it is likely that the two bidders would be the only ones to submit quotes, based on past tenders.
Quinn added that his crews needed the new mower right away considering the machine that it was replacing was not operational.
The finance department agreed to proceed with the low bidder because it was equipment needed immediately.
