A Cornwall couple have reached a settlement with the province to receive an additional $130,000 in compensation for the expropriation of land for construction of the Cornwall bypass.

Brian and Dora MacKinley were not satisfied that the sum of $134,100 already paid adequately provides due compensation and damages.

The expropriation of 21.77 acres located at Lot Number 32 in Cornwall was effective Oct. 18, 2017.

The additional compensation resulted from the value of 20.77 acres of the lands being valued at $6,000 per acre, up from the $3,400 per acre the province initially awarded. Also, a second one acre building lot was valued at $33,000.

Ellen Jones took the government to court to get what she believed was the value of property expropriated for the Cornwall bypass and was awarded nearly $300,000 in additional compensation for a total of $831,800.
