CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The City of Charlottetown is hoping that the mayor and council will be on the same page when it comes to issues, at least when it comes to speaking publicly.
According to an amendment on council’s code of conduct bylaw, members of council shall recognize the responsibility of the mayor to accurately communicate the decisions of council, even if there is a disagreement with such decisions.
“Members of council are to respect the decision(s) of council once a decision is rendered, without criticism,’’ states the bylaw.
“In addition, while respecting the right to have contrary positions and opinions, members shall avoid any words or actions that are unduly critical or derogatory towards other members of council, staff, of the city’s official position on any topic.’’
