CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Charlottetown’s public works department is considering some changes at two busy pedestrian crossings, pending approval of the capital budget.

The changes would involve upgrades to both the pedestrian crossing/trail crossing at Longworth Avenue at the trail crossing and at Great George and Fitzroy streets.

The pedestrian crossing at George George and Fitzroy streets is a busy one and has been referred to in the past by city politicians as a dangerous one.

The goal is to narrow the intersection for traffic approaching on Fitzroy Street by installing a median that would be designed to slow down drivers.

The trail crossing at Longworth Avenue is more challenging because it’s so close to the intersection at Mount Edward Road, but public works staff is looking at ways to create a channeling effect and will seek out advice from a consultant.
