SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. —

Due to ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19 strain) pandemic concerns, the City of Summerside council meeting scheduled for Monday, March 16, has been closed to the public.

The meetings are now broadcast live on the city's YouTube page and citizens are being encouraged to watch from home.

The meeting is scheduled to start broadcasting at 6:30 p.m.

Premier Dennis King and Summerside Mayor Basil Stewart spoke via phone over the weekend. According to a press release from the province, they spoke about the ongoing efforts to ensure public safety, keeping the Island's supply chain going and mitigating the damage caused by the spread of coronavirus.

The city has already closed Credit Union Place until further notice and may make future announcements about the closure of other municipal services.

Also, Summerside Police Services has announced that, as a precautionary measure against coronavirus, all criminal record checks will be put on hold until future notice.

If someone requires a criminal record check they are still available through Global ID Services in Charlottetown at 902-892-0002.

Islanders with questions about coronavirus should call P.E.I.’s toll-free information line at 1-800-958-6400. The information line is taking messages 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Islanders who leave messages will receive a call back within 24 hours.

Anyone experiencing symptoms like cough, fever, and shortness of breath within 14-days after international travel should call 811 to be screened and, if necessary, directed for testing. Those requiring immediate medical attention should call 911.
