Winter’s early arrival in November seemed to cool potential tourists to the idea of visiting P.E.I.

Travel was down across the board with ferry service registering a 27.4 per cent decline in traffic in November over the same month in 2017. Numerous crossings were cancelled due to weather.

Traffic across the Confederation Bridge dropped 8.8 per cent with a higher-than-normal number of restricted crossings and complete shut-downs imposed due to high winds.

Flights were down slightly, but motorcoach travel to P.E.I. plunged 54.5 per cent.

Temperatures were well below average, and snowfall was more than triple the norm in a cold, wet month on Prince Edward Island.

The average temperature for November was 2.2 C below normal in Charlottetown and 2.3 C below normal in Summerside.

Not surprisingly, the inclement weather kept many golfers from hitting P.E.I. courses in November. The number of non-member rounds was down 35.7 per cent this past November compared with November 2017.
