CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Charlottetown's winter parking restrictions are in place from now until April 15, 2020.

Anyone parking on city streets during these months, between the hours of 11 p.m. and 6 a.m., is taking a risk that they may be ticketed and/or towed.

The city’s public works department and police services work as a team to enforce the winter parking restrictions only when de-icing and/or snow clearing is required.

The city does its best to notify the public in a timely fashion on days when winter parking restrictions are being enforced, using the Charlottetown Alert System to issue a snow alert. This information is also shared on the city’s social media accounts and through local media.

The city’s snow clearing and de-icing activities typically focus on residential areas first, leaving the early hours of the morning for the downtown in an attempt to alleviate parking issues for businesses that remain open beyond the 11 p.m. timeframe.

The winter parking restrictions also apply to those with residential parking permits.

Off-street parking is available when the snow alert is activated to avoid the potential for a ticket and/or being towed.

In the downtown core, two lots are available, including Confederation Landing parking lot and the Queens Wharf parking lot. The public can use these lots from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. during the winter months. The Charlottetown Area and Development Corporation offers a Park and Ride service from its Grafton Street lot to the downtown. For details, visit: cadcpei.com.

The Holland College staff parking lot, located on Fitzroy Street next ADL Ltd., may also be used as an off-street parking alternative during the overnight winter parking restrictions, between 8 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. Users do so at their own risk and must exit the lot by 7:30 a.m. or risk being ticketed/towed.

The city parkades offer free parking on Saturdays and holidays.

The public is also encouraged to utilize T3 Transit. For route schedules and fare details, visit: t3transit.ca.

Under the snow removal bylaw, private contractors and members of the public are prohibited from dumping snow onto any city street or property. A fine of up to $500 is associated with this infraction.
