CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Richmond Street will be closed from West Street to Rochford Street for paving. The sidewalks in the area will remain open. The work is expected to start at approximately 7 a.m.
Tree maintenance/removal is scheduled to occur in the following areas with traffic control personnel on site:
- Mount Edward Road between Harley and Gower streets will be reduced to one lane of alternating traffic between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
- Cumberland Street between Fitzroy and Euston streets will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. (noon).
Sidewalk and curbing work is scheduled to take place in the following areas for the week of Oct. 19-23:
- Dorchester Street between Weymouth and Cumberland streets;
- Queen Street between Richmond and Sydney streets in front of the Dominion Building;
- Churchill Avenue between Greenfield Avenue and North River Road.
Work will be taking place on Beach Grove Road, from the corner of Maypoint Road towards the Beach Grove Home. Traffic may be reduced to one-lane alternating throughout the day. These delays are necessary for the construction of the active pathway along Beach Grove Road that will connect to a trail near the Beach Grove Home. This work is expected to be ongoing for the next few weeks.
UPEI road extension work will be taking place for the week of October 19 to 23. This work consists of the expansion of the University Avenue and Enman Crescent (south) intersection, including the widening of the roadway and work on the median. Only minor traffic delays are expected, and traffic control personnel will be on site.
Longworth Avenue, at the Confederation Trail crossing, will be one lane of alternating traffic to allow for crosswalk improvement work. Traffic control personnel will be on-site to direct vehicle traffic.
Work will continue on upgrades to the pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Great George Street and Fitzroy Street. Traffic will be reduced to one lane, at times, with alternating traffic. Traffic control personnel will be on-site to direct motorists. Pedestrians are advised that the existing overhead crossing light will be removed while the work is ongoing and will be reinstated upon completion.
Advanced notice:
Work will begin on Thursday, Oct. 22 on Water Street. Water Street will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic from Haviland Street to Union Street to allow for the installation of underground electrical utilities. Traffic will be detoured. Traffic heading down Water Street will be directed onto Pownal Street. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes.
