A traffic advisory has been issued with the following traffic flow impacts expected for Wednesday, Dec. 2:

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. —
Santa Claus Comes to Town will take place Wednesday. Santa will be passing through the city centre (north of Brighton Road-Euston Street, west of University Avenue, and south of Capital Drive). For detailed route maps, visit Charlottetown.ca/santatours.

Tree maintenance is scheduled to take place in the following areas Wednesday:

  • North River Road between McGill Avenue and Carriage Lane between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Traffic will be reduced to one lane and sidewalks in the work area will be closed to pedestrian traffic. Traffic control personnel will be on site.
  • Belvedere Avenue between Mount Edward Road and Maple Avenue between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. will be reduced to one lane and sidewalks in the work area will be closed to pedestrian traffic. Traffic control personnel will be on site.

Sidewalk and curbing work is scheduled to take place in the following areas for the week:

  • Queen Street between Richmond and Sydney streets in front of the Dominion Building;
  • Johnson Avenue between McGill Avenue and Charlotte Drive.

UPEI road extension work will be taking place for the week Nov. 30 to Dec. 4. This work consists of the expansion of the University Avenue and Enman Crescent (south) intersection, including the widening of the roadway and work on the median. Only minor traffic delays are expected and traffic control personnel will be on site. Pedestrians are advised to use the sidewalk on the UPEI side of University Avenue as heavy equipment will be on the opposite side of the road relocating the sidewalk.

A section of the boardwalk that runs along the waterfront parallel to Haviland Street adjacent to the Culinary Institute and the Armoury will be closed to pedestrians during construction of a project at 15 Haviland St. Those using the boardwalk will need to go around the site while exploratory excavation work related to a future building and the existing stormwater pipe is completed.

Work to replace twin stormwater culverts under Capital Drive has begun. There will be impacts on traffic flow in the area for approximately four to five weeks. Capital Drive will be closed from the section of road in front of Action Car and Truck Accessories to approximately 200 Capital Dr. (the section in front of the Holiday Inn Express and Suites). Both businesses, along with other businesses near the construction zone, will remain open and accessible to the public during construction.

Detours will be in place and involve routing traffic heading from Cornwall through the Maypoint Roundabout toward the Charlottetown Bypass (Arterial Highway) via Upton Road (Rte. 1). Those travelling from Charlottetown into Cornwall would need to enter the Maypoint Roundabout via Upton Road. Detour signage will be in place and traffic control personnel will be on site. The Active Transportation corridor within the construction zone will also be closed for the duration of the project.
