A Charlottetown man who was caught on video checking for unlocked vehicle doors in a driveway was sentenced to 52 days in jail on multiple charges.

Benjamin Tanner Dykerman, 23, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to prowling at night, failing to attend court, theft and breaching his probation.

Crown attorney Gerald Quinn told the court that on Oct. 8, Dykerman went to a private residence on Fitzroy Street in Charlottetown where he was checking for unlocked doors on vehicles in the driveway.

The court heard the resident gave police video that showed Dykerman leaving after finding the vehicle doors were all locked.

Dykerman missed a court appearance two days later.

Quinn said that on Oct. 28, Dykerman stole $13.88 worth of items from a grocery store, including a bag of pepperoni and an energy drink.

He was on probation at the time.

Douglas gave Dykerman credit of 15 days for time spent in custody since his arrest, leaving him 37 days on his sentence.

Dykerman will be on probation after his release and must pay $13.88 in restitution.
