CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Charlottetown police are informing the public of a recent surge in thefts from vehicles.
Since the morning of Friday, Feb. 21, there have been 10 reported thefts from vehicles – four of which had their windows smashed to gain entry (purse/wallets in plain view stolen) and seven of which had a purse, backpack or wallet stolen.
The areas affected include:
- West Royalty (Trainor Street and Gates Drive);
- Brighton (Century Terrace, St. Claire Avenue, Brighton Road, York Lane, Prince Charles Drive and Villa Avenue);
- downtown (Longworth Avenue).
The culprits are currently targeting purses and wallets, seeking cash and credit/debit cards that they can use the “tap” feature to make purchases.
As seen in these recent cases, simply locking vehicle doors is not enough. The public is reminded to make sure they don’t leave anything of value inside their vehicles.
