CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — An 83-year-old Charlottetown man has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.

Charlottetown Police Services Major Crime Unit issued a statement late Wednesday saying it had concluded an investigation into what police describe as an “historical sexual assault complaint.” The offences date back from 2009 to 2014.

The accused has been released with conditions and will appear in provincial court at a later date. His name has not been released.

Charlottetown police said they would not be releasing any further information until the accused appears in court.
