CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Charlottetown Police Services have been conducting concentrated enforcement on motorcycle drivers this month.

At Monday’s meeting of council’s standing committee on protective and emergency services, Deputy Police Chief Sean Coombs said two officers — Const. Tim Keizer on a police motorcycle and Const. Ron Kennedy in a marked cruiser — conducted educational enforcement on July 3 and 19 based on complaints from city residents.

Keizer and Kennedy conducted the targeted enforcement at Victoria Park, on Pownal Street and Kent Street, the three main areas of concern.

Coombs said about 50 motorcycles were stopped on each date with several tickets issued on both occasions.

“In relation to concerns by city residents ... we conducted educational enforcement checkstops for motorcycle safety, proper paperwork and driving habits within the city," Coombs told the committee.
