Charlottetown, P.E.I., firefighters battle more mulch fires in August

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Charlottetown Fire Department responded to 80 emergency calls in August, including nine mulch fires.

Among the 50 calls Station 1 on Kent Street tended to, 18 of them were for an alarm ringing but no fire or due to an alarm equipment malfunction. They also responded to six mulch fires, four EMS mutual aid calls, three calls where smoke was reported in a building, three calls for smoke on a roof, one dumpster fire, two motor vehicle accidents/fire and one transformer fire.

Of the 30 calls Station 2 in Sherwood responded to, 12 were due to an alarm ringing but no fire or due to an alarm equipment malfunction.

Firefighters also responded to three mulch fires, three motor vehicle accidents, three EMS medical aid calls, one report of smoke, one gas leak and one call due to the smell of propane.
