Charlottetown fire stations respond to emergency calls

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Charlottetown Fire Department responded to 71 emergency calls in October.

Station 1 on Kent Street was called out 47 times with 29 of the calls ending up as false alarms.

However, firefighters did deal with five calls for mutual aid, one garbage fire, one report of black smoke, three motor vehicle collisions, two power line fires and one elevator rescue.

Station 2 in Sherwood responded to 24 emergency calls, with about eight of them being false alarms.

Station 2 firefighters also responded to one report of smoke coming from a building, one motor vehicle collision, one motor vehicle fire, five calls for mutual aid and one call related to an orange flashing light.

Meanwhile, the city’s fire prevention office handled 93 smoke alarm visits. Fifty-five homes were entered, 38 door tags were placed, seven batteries were replaced and two smoke alarms were installed.
